A Chair
A chair that rocked
The bewildered child;
A chair with arms that
Cradled the aching elbow
and the limb full of nursing
gurgle…
The creak of old wood
Reupholstered to be
Yet another chair
in yet another house
Making home
As my lap shifts
from cradle
To desk.
