The Treasury by Anne Selden [Annab]

The Treasury

Legends
of the old world...
Folktales enchant me:
My ancestors listened to,
and live within,
my mother's lilting voice:
So like the fragrant garden
behind our home- long ago-
with the resonance
of the deep, dark woods beyond.
Once apon a time
the fire in our hearth
was stirred by an idle girl
child -long ago- listening.
She'll tell her own soft babies these stories,
change them bit by bit perhaps,
as her own growing self is changed
by listening
to fables.
