Sleeper's Descent by Anne Selden [Annab]

Sleeper's Descent

Oh Evelyn, dutiful dutchess of dreams
among the queen's lace on a silver night
the will of the roses has taken to flight
as she alludes on silver-light beams
and climbs, climbs, climbs, climbs- down:
through the dusks of long lost castles
forever seeking her long lost crown.
and down, down, down, down she flows
rousing the rats in the dungeons
till they scatter & scurry, giving way
to the princess fair and fond
bearing a lantern lite with eternal day
and the moon sings softly
to those who pray.
